What happens to our bodies and dancing when we know we are being seen? A laboratory for teenagers exploring visibility, witnessing and identity through the creation of short solos.
There is a saying: "Dance as if no one is watching." In this laboratory, we do the opposite. What happens to me, my body and my dancing when I know I am being seen? What emerges between someone acting and someone witnessing? What can I try in front of an audience that I cannot do alone?
Alongside group exercises and discussions, each participant develops a short solo. We explore being in public, work with audience attention, discuss boundaries and the body, improvise and structure movement. How do I want to be seen? How can I see another person? What makes being in public difficult, and what does it offer me?
The final showing brings together these solo miniatures. Through dance, we investigate the act of being seen. We know that being watched can get in the way. Here, we explore what it makes possible.
